አማርኛ 33 ፊደላት አሉት፤ እያንዳንዱ ፊደል በሰባት ቅርጽ ይጻፋል። ልጆች ሀ ሁ ሂ ሃ ሄ ህ ሆ እያሉ በቅደም ተከተል ይማራሉ — ሀሁ የሚባለውም ለዚህ ነው። ከታች ያለውን ገበታ ያንብቡ፣ ያትሙ፣ ወይም አንድ ፊደል መርጠው ይለማመዱ።

Amharic is not written with an alphabet of consonants and vowels the way English is. Each of its 33 letters is a syllable, and each one is written seven ways — once for every vowel sound. That is 231 characters in all, and Ethiopian children learn them in the order below, reciting ሀ ሁ ሂ ሃ ሄ ህ ሆ — which is why the whole system is nicknamed ሀሁ, or HaHu.
